5" x 2 1/2" x 1 1/2"; koa, Indian rosewood; 6/98

This is the smallest of the boxes I've made to this point, and in most ways the most precise. The design is simpler than the last few, and, I think, the overall effect is most pleasing. When the wood is this pretty, it's easy to detract from it by making the overall box to "busy", I think.

Again, the wood in the top is the same as was in the previous two boxes, but this one has a small knot to one side and a more distinctive grain pattern.

The moment when the Danish oil goes on the outside on these is always very, very fun... this one was sanded at 80, 120, 220, 320, and then polished with two grades of faux steel wool. The results seem worth it!

Mom & Dad came to visit. Having given one to my Father, my Mother wanted one to... well it figures. Anyway, she picked this one. Nice choice!
